Ra.One : High on VFX , Low on Concept
The much hyped movie Ra.One has released and becoming a rage only thanks to Shahrukh Khan’s Immense stardom. The Film which stars Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and child artist Armaan Verma boasts of great VFX and a polished product. But sadly the movie delivers only half What it presents.
Let’s take a look on some in’s and out’s of this venture.
Story : A Game Designer Shekhar Subramaniam , who designs a game in which the Villian(Ra.one) is much more powerful than the hero(G.one), only to please his son(Prateik) and becoming a hero in his eyes. The Disaster strikes when the supervillian comes out of the game and is hell-bent on destroying the gamer who plays him – ‘Lucifer’ the name of the player. And its none other than Shekhar’s Son himself. Shekhar sacrifices himself to save his son by pretending to be ‘Lucifer’. Thus Ra.one Kills him but he is still out for Lucifer. So Now to Save Prateik and his mom. G.one also gets released from the game to fight Ra.one. and Rest of the Film follows the typical filmy rivalry of Good Vs Evil.
What’s Definitely IN – The VFX, The Editing, The Cinematography and the Action Sequences all are awe-inspiring.
What’s Definitely OUT – The Script, The Concept (Game Character coming out in Real World makes you scratch your head. Perhaps it could have worked if a similar world was created for it. For instance, Hatim Tai looked natural in his world. But The Real World is not too advanced to welcome Gaming Character coming Alive.)
The Performances are just about OK – Shahrukh couldn’t deliver what is expected from him. Perhaps he should stick with his Romantic Image. Action and Superhero Stuff is just not for him. Kareena Kapoor was good in her Evil Form and Chammak Challo Song, Otherwise she had hardly anything to do in this film. Arjun Rampal is passable. He is not a Menance at all that can come close to Mogambo or Gabbar.
· VFX Review – The Film has certainly has high level of VFX and CG work when coming to Indian films. Some of the sequences are astonishing and when they explored in 3D, They look Awe-Inspiring. The Train Sequence is one of the best scenes to talk about. The suits designed by Robert Kurtzman (who also designed Mallika Sherawat’s look for Hisss) for the lead characters are simply outstanding. So many VFX companies have contributed to the film’s production. To Name a Few are - Eyeqube Studios, Redchillies.VFX, Prime Focus and Synthespian Studios. The film has definitely taken the standard of Indian Films to great level. But having said this, It’s unfair to say that the film can compete with International Films in terms of VFX. We still have a long way to go. Also Ra.one hired Hollywood Artists for the Project. The Victory shall be ours when our Indian Artists shall make it big this way in a film. All in all Ra.one is a big project only to be remembered for its special effects only. http://www.mynews.in/News/ra.one___high_on_vfx__low_on_concept_N404554.html | |
